How should you finish a vinyl floor at a door frame?

If the new floor comes up against a threshold or door, we recommend cutting away the moulding at the bottom of the door. Whether you're working with a Floorify click floor or glue-down floor — a neat finish around door frames makes all the difference. Here's how to do it:

How can you do that?

Step 1: Trim the door frame (for click and gluedown floors)

To allow the vinyl plank or tile to slide neatly underneath the door frame, the bottom part of the frame needs to be cut away. Here's how:

For click floors:

  • Place a piece of underlay against the existing floor.

  • Then place a click plank upside down, decorative side facing down, on top.

  • Place a handsaw or multitool flat on the plank and saw horizontally into the frame.

  • Remove the sawn-off piece.

  • Vacuum any dust or debris for a clean finish.

For gluedown floors:

  • Place a gluedown plank upside down against the frame (no underlay).

  • Use a handsaw or multitool to cut just above the plank.

  • Remove the cut-out section.

  • Vacuum the area clean for a neat installation.

Step 2: Finishing with Floorify click floors

  • Click the plank into place along the long side as usual.

  • Slide the plank under the trimmed door frame.

  • Use a pull bar to firmly click the short side into place.

  • Make sure the plank lies flat and secure.

Result: a seamless, floating floor — no sealant or profiles needed.

Step 2: Finishing with Floorify gluedown floors

  • Measure and cut the plank precisely to size.

  • Test the fit dry under the frame first.

  • Apply adhesive to the subfloor according to instructions.

  • Slide the plank under the frame and press it down firmly.

  • Use a pressure roller for a flat, secure finish.

Result: a smooth, fully glued finish that fits perfectly under the door frame.

💡 Tip: It’s better to cut a little too low than too high — that way, the floor fits neatly under the frame without any gaps.
