How do you install a vinyl floor under a door?

Internal door

Is there a different type of flooring in the adjacent room, or do you want to interrupt the floor at the doorway?

  • For click floors: use a Floorify end or transition profile to neatly finish the floor under the door.

  • For gluedown floors: such profiles are usually not necessary. Because the floor is glued down and lies completely flat, it transitions seamlessly. If you do need a transition — for example due to height differences or a different floor type — you can use a suitable profile from your local DIY store.

In some cases, it's enough to slightly adjust the door hinges so the floor fits perfectly under the door — this works for both click and glue-down installations.

Our floors are also very thin (2.5 mm for gluedown, and 4 or 4.5 mm + underlay for click), so they usually fit neatly under interior doors without any adjustments.

Entrance door

Would you like to interrupt the floor at the doorway to install a built-in entrance mat?

  • For click floors: use a Floorify end or transition profile to neatly finish around the mat.

  • For gluedown floors: again, profiles are usually not needed. If you do need one (e.g. for a clean transition or level difference), a suitable profile from a hardware or specialist store will do the trick.

Door frames

For a clean finish, let the floor run under the door frame. This hides the expansion joint (in click floors) and creates a visually seamless result. The same approach works for gluedown floors.

Here’s how to do it:

  • For click floors: place a piece of underlay on the floor. (Skip this step for gluedown floors.)

  • Place a floor plank upside down with the decorative side facing down.

  • Use a handsaw or multitool flat against the plank to saw horizontally into the frame.

  • Remove the cut-out piece.

  • Vacuum up any dust or debris.

Finishing under the frame

  • Click floors:
Click the plank into place on the long side and slide it under the trimmed frame. Use a pull bar to firmly click the short side into place.

  • Gluedown floors:
Cut the plank to size, test-fit it dry, apply adhesive, slide it under the frame, press it down firmly, and finish with a pressure roller.
