Can you install a vinyl floor over an existing floor with underfloor heating?

Yes, it can. Both Floorify click and gluedown floors are suitable.

Click floors

Floorify click floors are rigid, thin (4 or 4.5 mm), and have a very low thermal resistance (R-value). This makes them ideal for installation over existing ceramic floors with underfloor heating, without significant heat loss.

Important: always use the Floorify Performance underlay, which is specially designed for underfloor heating due to its ultra-low R-value.

What to check:

  • The ceramic floor must be flat, stable, and firmly fixed.

  • Joints between tiles must be no wider than 5 mm and/or no deeper than 4 mm. Larger joints must be leveled first.

  • Surface temperature of the underfloor heating must not exceed 29°C.

  • Heating should be turned on gradually: a maximum of 5°C increase per day.

Gluedown floors

Floorify gluedown floors can also be installed over an existing ceramic floor with underfloor heating. These floors are even thinner (only 2.5 mm) and are glued directly to the subfloor.

Important: gluedown floors require a perfectly smooth and level subfloor, so the preparation of the ceramic floor is especially important.

What to check:

  • All joints and irregularities must be fully leveled.

  • Protruding tile edges must be removed.

  • The subfloor must be flat, clean, hard, and stable.

  • Here too, the surface temperature must not exceed 27°C, and heating must be gradually increased.

Since proper adhesion is essential for a beautiful and durable result, we strongly recommend having gluedown floors installed by a professional.
